OVERDRESSED is an international group exhibition presented during Berlin Art Week that explores fashion as a cultural language and a medium for artistic investigation. Rather than approaching fashion as an industry or a trend, the exhibition examines clothing, adornment, beauty rituals, and visual excess as tools through which identity, memory, gender, belonging, power, and social norms are negotiated.
The exhibition invites artists working across painting, photography, textile art, graphic practices, and wall-based interdisciplinary media to present works that engage with fashion beyond aesthetics. OVERDRESSED seeks projects that question conventions, celebrate ornament, challenge ideas of taste, and investigate the symbolic role of clothing in contemporary culture.
Bringing together emerging and established artists from different cultural backgrounds, the exhibition creates a dialogue between diverse artistic practices united by a shared interest in the visual languages surrounding dress and self-representation. Existing works as well as newly proposed projects are welcome, encouraging both completed pieces and new artistic responses to the exhibition theme.
Hosted at PrincessSofia Cafe in Berlin from 9 September to 9 October 2026, the exhibition transforms the venue into a platform where contemporary art, fashion, and public engagement intersect. The project aims to make contemporary artistic practices accessible to a broad audience while fostering conversations around identity, culture, craftsmanship, consumption, and image-making.
OVERDRESSED celebrates artistic freedom and visual abundance, inviting audiences to reconsider what has traditionally been described as “too much.” Through a wide range of media and perspectives, the exhibition highlights fashion not as decoration, but as a powerful cultural medium capable of reflecting personal narratives, collective histories, and the complexities of contemporary society.
